Fiddler On The Roof
is the story of Tevye the milkman and his family. It is also a portrayal of the lives, dreams and the aspirations of the people of Anatevka, a Jewish village in Tzarist Russia.

It is a story of simple folk, who live from the soil and who turn to God and Traditions for survival. Through Tevye we learn the struggles and the romances of these people. Tevye is the Papa; the upholder of traditions that for centuries have been an integral part of the villagers' lives. One of these traditions is that the Papa should choose the husbands for his daughters, Tzeitel, Hodel, Chava, Shprintze and Bielke, with the help of Yente the matchmaker and the approval of his wife Golde. It is, however, a changing world and gradually Tevye must come to terms with this as, one by one, his daughters choose for themselves. He is torn between consenting to his daughters' wishes and clinging to life-long traditions.

This lively and compelling show contains a mixture of humour, sadness, happiness, anguish and comradeship. There are many well-known and enjoyable songs including:

If I Were A Rich Man • Sunrise, Sunset • Tradition • Do You Love Me? • Matchmaker • "The Dream" Sequence • Now I Have Everything
