Music by Benny Andersson and Bjorn Ulvaeus
Lyrics by Tim Rice

Chess
is a modern "rock opera" which had music provided by half of Abba (the male half!). The story is quite hard to understand through the show, but follows a rivalry between an American chess player and a Russian chess player, their relationships, their turmoil and the politics involved in the game of chess. The show was hugely ambitious as it is a totally different type of show to the ones we have done before but many felt that it was pulled off extremely well.

A few of the songs from Chess are very well known as they were released into the charts, others are less well known but it has one of the best musical scores written (in this webmasters humble opinion!) Some of the songs are:

I Know Him So Well • Pity The Child • Anthem • Heaven Help My Heart • One Night in Bangkok • Someone Else's Story • You And I

For Havering Music Makers' production:
Producer - Bill Edwards
Musical Director - Simon Curtis
Choreographer - Nichola Tawn
Rehearsal Accompanist - Claire Hickford

By arrangement with Samuel French Ltd
Havering Music Makers are an amateur society affiliated to The National Operatic and Dramatic Association and acknowledge the support of Havering Arts Council

Chess was hard to sell and proved hard to understand from the audience - however, the cast thoroughly enjoyed the show and it provides some great memories
